ING-US, a retirement, investment and insurance company, has re-named itself as Voya Financial in a re-branding exercise. The publicly-traded company is based in New York but has about 700 employees working in downtown Minneapolis. The building also been renamed Voya Financial. The rebranding process will continue throughout 2014. The company said in a release: “Voya is an abstract name coined from the word ‘voyage.’ We believe it reflects momentum and optimism, and a view towards the future. It also associates well with the color orange, which remains a distinctive attribute of our brand.” The businesses that make up Voya Financial were formed through a series of acquisitions by Amsterdam-based ING Group dating back to the 1970s. The company announced in 2012 that it was spinning off most of its U.S. operations, including the Minneapolis office, which is the headquarters of its U.S. retail life insurance and employee-benefits businesses.
