IDFC Bank has launched its services in Meghalaya. The bank opened its first branch in Shillong and has set up interoperable micro ATMs in rural locations. A press release by the bank said it is deploying micro ATMs to allow citizens to transact from the comfort of their neighborhoods. The micro ATMs also provide instant account opening and activation, using a variety of identifiers such as mobile numbers, debit cards, bank account numbers, and Aadhar, India’s national identification system. Rajiv Lall, MD and CEO of the bank, said the bank has chosen to establish its presence in the North East in its very first year of operations and its plans for Meghalaya will be shaped by the state’s goal of financial inclusion. The branch will be powered by a custom-designed solar power system. The bank currently has a network of nearly 70 branches, of which 50 are in unbanked rural and semi-urban locations.
