HSBC closes down branch because of online banking

HSBC has announced that it is closing down a branch in Britain because “the number of customers has ‘fallen significantly’ as people move their banking to telephone and online”. The bank’s customers at its Wimborne Road branch received a letter saying the branch will be shut on 16 October due to the business ‘evolving and developing their services.’ The letter adds: “With the growth of telephone and internet banking in recent years, this has naturally resulted in some branches being used less often” and the bank has taken the ‘difficult decision’ to close the branch. Customers’ accounts will automatically be transferred to another branch. A spokesperson for HSBC has confirmed that the eight members of staff will be re-located to other branches of the bank.
