HDFC Bank shuts down 276 ATMs

HDFC Bank had reduced the number of automated teller machine network by 276 in the July-September quarter. Earlier, in the January-March 2014 quarter too the bank had cut down the number of its ATMs. Now the bank’s ATM network has come down to 11,256. Deputy MD of the bank Paresh Sukthankar said the bank continued to add ATMs in certain locations but have also been simultaneously rationalizing and reviewing the existing ATMs across multiple parameters. The bank looks at things like vintage of deployment, number of transactions, feedback from front-end branches, opportunities for relocating, etc. The latest exercise is part of this rationalizatio, he said.
