Gujarat banking network – an analysis

Gujarat has one of the best banking networks in the country and the banking business in the state is well supported by the thriving trade, commerce and industries. An article in Banking Frontiers says the SLBC-member banks in the state have together 9566 branches and 11,346 ATMs as of Q2, 2018-19. The public sector banks have1384 branches and 4861 ATMs, with SBI topping the list. Among the private banks HDFC Bank is at the top, followed by ICICI Bank and Axis Bank.

In the cooperative sector, the DCCBs have 1355 branches and 226 ATMs. The Gujarat State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank, or Khetibank, has 181 branches and GSCB 25 branches and 23 ATMs. Saurashtra Gramin Bank is the largest among the RRBs, with 267 branches and 20 ATMs, followed by Dena Gujarat Gramin Bank (258) and Baroda Gramin Bank (245). Jana Small Finance Bank has the largest network among the 6 small finance banks, with 54 branches and 6 ATMs, followed by AU Small Finance Bank (40, 40).

The article says SBI with deposits of Rs1.447 trillion and loans of Rs1.068 trillion, is the leader. The aggregate business of all the banks has increased to Rs12.451 trillion in Q22018-19 with deposits touching Rs6.742 trillion and loans 5.708 trillion.
