Subhash Chandra Khuntia, former chief secretary of Karnataka, has been appointed chairman of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India. He is a retired IAS officer of the 1981 batch. He will have 3-year tenue. The post of IRDAI chairman has been lying vacant after the tenure of T.S. Vijayan had come to an end in February. Khuntia has been a Karnataka-cadre IAS officer, who had earlier served in several state departments, including as secretary at the department of school education & literacy, special secretary and financial advisor in the ministry of petroleum and natural gas, and had held positions in Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and Indian Oil Corporation.
