Former CMD of Bank of Baroda M.D. Mallya is no more

Former chairman and MD of Bank of Baroda and Bank of Maharashtra, M.D. Mallya, died in Bengaluru. He was ailing for some time. Mallya was 66. He is survived by wife, a son, and a daughter. He was from Mulky in Mangalore. After acquiring his Bachelor of Engineering degree from the then KREC Suratkal, Mallya completed a management diploma through Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru and joined Corporation Bank in 1976. After serving that bank for 29 years, he was appointed ED of Oriental Bank of Commerce. Mallya is known for his innovative business strategies in banking and in introducing information technology into banking. He was also responsible for overseeing the merger of Global Trust Bank with Oriental Bank of Commerce. During his period as managing director of Bank of Maharashtra, he achieved all-round development of the bank and at Bank of Baroda, he was instrumental in induction of technology in a big way and for the overall growth in the business of the bank. Mallya also functioned as director of State Bank of India between 2014 and 2017 and independent director of ICICI Bank in 2018.
