City Union Bank has set up APJ Abdul Kalam-City Union Bank Chair for rural development and Swami Dayananda Saraswati Chair for Indian Values at SASTRA University. A. Sivathanu Pillai, honorary distinguished professor, Indian Space Research Organizatioin, launched the two Chairs. He sad creative leadership is the key for a nation’s transformation to become self-reliant in science and technology. He also emphasized on the strength India has gained as a result of its ancient technological discoveries and said Dr Abdul Kalam was creative in his leadership roles to energize human capital not only in India’s space and defence programs but in ensuring that technology spin-off benefits reached the society at large. N. Kamakodi, CEO and MD, City Union Bank, handed over a cheque for Rs 50 lakhs as initial corpus for the APJ Abdul Kalam – City Union Bank Chair.
