BoE conference focuses on digital technologies and future financial landscape

The Bank of England has arranged a conference that centers around “New Digital Technologies and the Future Financial Landscape,” as a means of advancing the Bank of England Agenda for Research (BEAR). The conference is slated for February 27-28, 2023, and will be held in a hybrid format. The goal is to foster policy-relevant research in this area by bringing together scholars from academia, central banks, global organizations, and the financial sector.

The conference will consist of a high-level policy panel, two keynote addresses, and a mix of academic and industry presentations. Keynote addresses will be given by Markus Brunnermeier (Princeton) and Cecilia Skingsley (BIS). Some of the key areas that will be covered include: Theoretical considerations related to new digital instruments and potential fragilities, Fragility in decentralized finance lending, Adoption and fragility of stablecoins, Risk assessment in the context of new digital technologies, The implications of open banking and customer data sharing for fintech borrowers, Utilizing multimodal learning and deep generative models to predict corporate bankruptcy, Central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and monetary policy, both from a theoretical perspective and with a focus on quantitative results, The potential for a future clash of digital currencies, How the adoption of CBDCs could impact the operational framework of monetary policy.
