The RBI has included Bharatiya Mahila Bank in the second schedule to the RBI Act. This will mean the bank will be in the commercial bank category and becomes eligible for loans from RBI on bank rate and for membership of clearing houses. It also provides that any activity of the bank would not adversely affect the interests of depositors. The bank, which began operations in 2013 with a capital of Rs 1000 crore, has a loan portfolio of Rs 80-90 crore. It provides loan to girl child at a concessional rate which is 1% lower than the normal rates.
