Prakash Mallya, former CMD of Vijaya Bank, has been selected for the K.K. Pai National Banking Award for 2016-17. The trust in a release said Mallya will be presented with the award on 9 October. He was the chairman of Vijaya Bank from 1 April 2006 to 31 July 2008, during which time, the bank had the most impressive results. During his tenure, the bank opened 128 new branches taking the total number of branches to 1,051. The number of ATMS increased from 128 to 272, while the coverage of core banking went up from 69% to 93% of bank’s business. Before joining Vijaya Bank, he was ED in Syndicate Bank. Currently he is a director of Lakshmi Vilas Bank and of the Stock Holding Corporation of India.
