Hailing the country’s startup eco system, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio broadcast on Sunday that India is leading the world in this field with more than 70 startups having crossed the valuation of $1 billion.
“Until 2015, there were only about nine or ten unicorns in the country. You’ll be glad to know that India is now flying high even in the world of unicorns. This year has seen a significant shift. In just 10 months, a unicorn was made in India every 10 days. Today there are more than 70 unicorns in the country. This is also significant because our youth have achieved this success despite the Corona pandemic,” the PM said.
“These days, we hear startup, startup, startup all around us. It is true, this is the era of startups, and it is also true that in the world of startups, India is leading the way. Startups are getting record investment year after year. This sector is progressing very fast. The reach of startups has increased even in small towns of the country. Due to the success of startups, everyone has noticed them and the way they are getting support from investors from all over the country and abroad. Perhaps, just a few years ago no one could have imagined this happening,” Modi added.
