As many as 1000 bank branches of 42 banks have opened Aadhaar enrolment and updation centers within their premises, said the Aadhaar issuing organization UIDAI. It said the target is to have 15,000 bank branches to have the facility. According to CEO of UIDAI Ajay Bhushan Pandey, the Aadhaar Kendras are being established with a view to make the Aadhaar verification process of bank accounts convenient for the people. The UIDAI had asked private as well as public banks to open Aadhaar enrolment and updation facilities in one out of 10 branches.
