SBI launches digital village in Nepal

The State Bank of India has launched a digital village initiative in Nepal. The bank has also set up sbiINTOUCH service at the digital village. The digital village was inaugurated jointly by governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Chiranjibi Nepal and SBI chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya. The Nepal State Bank Digital Village initiative is a first of its kind initiative in the banking industry in Nepal. Under the initiative, the bank has adopted Jaharsing Pauwa village and will undertake setting up of financial literacy centers and other banking facilities in the village. The digital village will have services such as internet banking kiosk, free wi fi, POS facility, cash recycler machines etc. The service is expected to cover 443 households in the village. The village has approximately 2200 people who are set to witness solar street lights, medicines and medical equipment being provided to the health center, books and stationeries to the government school, and similar facilities under the CSR initiatives of Nepal State Bank. The products to be offered initially by sbiINTOUCH to the customers will include savings bank, Saral Bachat Account and Combo Savings Account. The bank has also distributed 430 debit cards to the people of the locality, which is considered remote area due to the hillside location, though it is not very far from Kathmandu city.
