Nabard effort to digitize SHGs

Nabard says it has digitized some 1.26 lakh self-help groups (SHGs) under its eShakti initiative. Some 14.86 lakh individuals in the country are now able to avail the benefits of this digitization. Nabard wants to digitize all SHGs under its Micro Credit and Innovations Department and reduce the drudgery of book keeping and cut the dependence on cash transactions. According to M.I. Ganagi, CGM of Nabard, the initiative has so far covered 14.86 lakh individual members across about 18,816 villages covering 22 districts in majority of the states. The pilot project in this regard was launched in Ramgarh (Jharkhand) and Dhule (Maharashtra) in 2015 and there are 174 banks participating, and 97 self-help promoting institutions (SHPIs) as partners. There are around 74 lakh SHGs in the country and Nabard is planning to complete the digitization exercise in phases.
