Dilip Asbe, who is now acting CEO of the National Payments Corporation of India, has been appointed MD and CEO. Asbe who was COO of NPCI is assuming office with immediate effect. The position, which had become vacant after A.P. Hota retired in August 2018, had attracted several outside candidates, including Uttam Nayak, senior vice president of Visa. Asbe has wide experience in the payments industry, having worked with Euronet and Prizm Payments before he joined NPCI in January 2010 as its first employee and CTO. In 2013 he had assumed the position of its COO and had a key role in executing various technology initiatives of NPCI, including the UPI platform, finetuning IMPS and integration of various NPCI platforms with payments startups.
