Canara Bank has 2 robots to attend to customers

Canara Bank has introduced robots for customer care at two of its offices in Bengaluru. Doing services are Mitra, a humanoid developed by a Bengaluru-based company Invento Robotics, and Candi, which is introduced in collaboration with Japan’s SoftBank Robotics. While Mitra greets customers at the bank’s head office in the city in Kannada and helps them in finding solutions to their issues, Candi uses English to answer some 215 preset questions at the bank’s circle office. Mitra, introduced in May 2017, is now undergoing an upgrade. Mitra is programmed to help customers navigate the bank’s head office by performing the tasks of a receptionist. It is uniquely floating around in a conveyor system. Candi is performing the task of a HR functionary. The robot has two modes – normal and banking and in the normal mode it can respond to a range of questions. In the banking mode, it can only respond to 215 questions, which are displayed next to it. The bank says the robots are part of the bank’s ambitious digitization program.
