Axis Bank has introduced an augmented reality feature in its mobile banking app encouraged by the recent success of Pokemon Go. The bank’s customers can now use the mobile camera to hunt for dining offers, cash backs, ATM locations and even apartments that are pre-approved for home loans. Amit Sethi, CIO of the bank, referred to Pokemon Go, which has become a rage globally and said while Nintendo found a use case for augmented reality in gaming, the bank figured a use case in banking. He also claimed this is the first mobile banking app in India to use augmented reality. The app provides an experience similar to the game and customers can have a map view of the location on their mobile. Sethi said the app is designed to enable customers to use it on the go to look at available offers around them. At the moment, the app is available to only account holders of the bank and is not part of Pinpgay, the app which can be used by non-account holders.
