SBI chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya may get a short extension in service. According to news reports, the government is considering giving her a one-year extension, especially in view of the group’s plan to merge its associate banks. The government feels there is a need for continuity at a time when the process of consolidation is going on. Bhattacharya’s term ends in September. The government has sought the views of the Bank Board Bureau in this regard.
