UK bank Aldermore has put forward a proposal to South African bank FirstRand Bank for a takeover. The bank, which focuses on mortgages and small-business loans, said preliminary talks have been held in this regard and a firm offer may be soon forthcoming. Aldermore is one of a number of new banks that has sprung up in recent years to take on the likes of Lloyds Banking Group and Barclays.
